How we work

A portrait is a very special kind of picture. It must capture who you are, not just what you look like. Whether you are and executive in your power office, a bride and groom, a graduating senior or a family in the park, your portrait must tell your story. Getting a good portrait does not need to be expensive or complicated. Here's how we do it.

Step 1 - We meet with you
We meet with you one-on-one to discuss the type of portrait you want and how you will use it. The location(s), props, clothing and scheduling will be determined during this meeting.

Step 2 - The Sitting
This is when we take the pictures. Plan on spending two hours with us, but you are not time-limited. We are interested in getting the picture you want. You come to our studio or we go "on location" which is anywhere within 45 minute drive from our Lenexa location. You may bring friends and any props that you can carry. You may bring more than one outfit, but be aware that changes may be difficult on-location. You are responsible for your own hair styling and makeup. Let us know if you would like a professional stylist and we will put you in touch with one.

Step 3 - Select your Poses
If we photographed you in our studio, you may review your poses on a large screen monitor immediately after your shoot. If your shoot was on location, you may come to our studio a few days later and view your poses. In either case, you select your favorite poses and we decide if you would like any retouching, special artistic effects etc. You also select and order the number and sizes of prints you want.

Tips for Getting a Really Good Portrait
Selecting the right clothes is the single most important thing you can do to get a good portrait. If you are a having a personal portrait taken, wear clothes that compliment your hair, eyes and skin colors. If yours is a group portrait, have all the members dress more or less alike. Notice how color was used to group various family members in our Portrait Gallery. Don't wear wildly patterned clothes with a lot of writing or a lot of jewelry (unless that is your thing). You are the subject of the portrait and these distract the eye away from you. You always look your best when you are well rested so be sure to get good nights' sleep before the shoot. Of course you can bring a boom box and a friend for moral support as well as any props you can carry. Above all, photo shoots are low stress so plan on having fun!

A DVD with all your photos is included in the sitting price. These files are suitable for display on the web. We put your selected photos on a web page for 90 days if you request it.

1 - 8x10" $15 (framed add $40; canvas wrap add $90)
1 - 11x14" $25 (framed add $55; canvas wrap add $100)

1 - 20x30" $100 (framed add $100; canvas wrap add $175)

Additional copies of any print are available at 50% off the single print price when ordered with the single print. This discount applies to paper prints only, framing and canvas wrap upgrades are not included.

- Payment for sitting is due at time of sitting
- No charge for most special effects like B/W, sepia, artistic effects
- No charge for light wrinkle removal, teeth whitening etc.
- All frames include matting
- Canvas wraps are unframed, contact us for regular and float frames)

Headshots

The Sitting
On-Location sitting - $100
Studio sitting - $50

40-50 poses with up to four outfits at one location.

Save with groups! For groups up to three, 15-20 poses each person for the price of a single sitting if all are taken at the same time.

Sitting price includes 4 prints of one pose. Note: all prints receive light retouching to whiten teeth, brighten eyes and lighten wrinkles.

Additional Prints
1 to 4 - 8x10" $6.00 each
5 to 11- 8x10" $5.00 each
12 or more - 8x10" $4.00 each

Extra copies of existing DVD - $6.00 each
Extra poses from the same sitting on DVD only (no paper prints) $20 per pose

- Payment for sitting is due at time of sitting
- Your name or other single line of text may be printed at the bottom of the photo
- Headshots may be B/W or color or a mix of both
- No charge for light wrinkle removal, teeth whitening etc.
